Feast of festivals
With the season of Festivals drawing to an end, it has been a busy summer for naturespacecreative having successfully delivered core events including : Polish Arts Festival 2011, End of Term 2011, Armed Forces Day Southend 2011 and Southend Air Festival 2011, of which Joanna has had key roles.
A particular favourite was producing and designing The Rime of the Ancient Mariner for Metal Culture as part of their Literary Festival - Shorelines, Joanna worked alongside Jude Kelly OBE (Artistic Director South Bank Centre) and Lemn Sissay as well as members of Bellowhead, the Pulse Choir and 15 local school children to create the first performance of the piece outside of the Southbank Centre who originally commissioned the piece.
Technical wizardry was mastered by Glyn Morgan and Ben of Maple Sound, Andy Barak-Smith (lighting) of Its All done with Mirrors and Sean Groth (Visuals) to create a memorable and beautiful recreation of the original piece.
Camino is well underway, Jo will be blogging from Day 31 on the camino page, follow her progress through to the day of the installation piece on Leigh Beach.
Other news.. Joanna has recently been working with Southend Borough Council as part of the Air Festival Event Management team, a thoroughly enjoyable and safe event was experienced by thousands of people flocking to the seafront in Southend to sea the planes. Our favourite was the majestic Vulcan bomber, that seemed to glide through the sky like a giant bird.
education education education
Busy month! Joanna started Camino - A 44 day journey. A process and reflective piece around the symbolism of journeys both physical and mental. Look out for her updates on the new camino dedicated page. Nicola MacLauchlan returned to an active role following maternity leave in her role as Education Director. Its good to have you back.
Case studies galore
Having successfully completed the Creative Partnerships project, naturespacecreative have also been involved in writing case studies around creativity and Learning outside the Classroom as a result of the Creative Partnerships project. When completed it will be on the Creative Partnerships and Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.
metamorphosis - Youth Arts Leadership Programme
Joanna has been working with the Royal Opera House and Harlow Commonside Education Unit to manage and create an education programme which encourages change and supports sustained development in the young peoples lives.
What a busy month, Camino has been growing the caminoproject.org Facebook site and has started its own journey and has taken on a new life.
The film of the piece has been edited and Alan Hockett and Joanna Hartle are busy trying to get it out there for people to see as well as launch caminoproject.org which will see camino taken across the world to be recreated in different locations and different settings through different personal responses, created not only by the artists but through open invitation to all to respond to the piece within a set of given parameters.
More details will follow as it happens. If you have pictures send them over though we would love to see them. Camino remained on Leigh beach for about 2 weeks after its creation. Amazing, and extraordinary.
people of camino
So, A quick thank you to all that particpated in the Camino last weekend. We have now indoctrinated the first 44 people of the Camino into the tribe, your help, guidance and all round good vibes helped make the piece inspiring, emotive, thought provoking and everything in the middle. Camino will be back, Alan Hockett and I are about to create the accompany short film that accompanies the other ingredients of the piece.
maori warrior extraordinaire
Sad news this month, the Infamous Nige Emery, a dear friend and colleague of Joannas in her touring days passed away after a short battle with cancer. His warrior and rock n roll attitude, large heart , friendship and execeptional proffesionalism will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Safe travels on your journey Nige.
Leigh Art Trail 2011
Following the success of ghost in Leigh Art Trail, Joanna Hartle our Founder will be creating another piece for this years trail entitled "Camino". The location and times of the piece will be disclosed nearer to the time, but it promises to show awe, and wonder in the contemplation of the self the sea and the lives it affects.
