Moving on from Fridays Why I am going to carry out the experiment again and see where it comes out, this time around mediums used the question is WHY do you work the way you do?
Here goes: Q: In relation to the ways of making that you have used in the past, what draws you to these ? In the past I have been drawn to the creation of large scale pieces, this seems natural Why? Because I tend to think bigger, maybe because I am used to designing for stage and this is a space that is unlimited. Working in a smaller space or making things smaller feels a little unnatural..... Why? Because it seems so small, because it feels limiting? Or is it that my visual process needs it in human scale in embracing it as a piece of art that can be explored.. Ah so exploration is this for your self or others or both - Why is this? I like to share experience, to create from a response, in doing that I like to create so that the viewer can walk that path, or step into the experience, to view it and evoke emotion. I don't feel able to do this as a small piece, its too minute, also it is harder for me to make as I have mobility issues with my wrists. When I make small, I make for me, or to understand the mechanisms needed to create the larger pieces, so the small moquettes in the process of experimenting but these are as much about the structure in which it is contained as well as the ideas for the content and means of how each individual elements is called into being. Why Because part of the interest for me is breaking down the elements to ensure that they are the true way of making this specific piece in this specific space at this specific time. Why - it needs to be able to flow, and be an actuate reproduction of the mind and the minds connection to the subject, whether that be land, emotion or story. In this semester I am clear that some of my work is focused n the the link between all things, the connection, the path and destiny, the paths that could be seen to be laid out, the link to the spiritual and ancients understanding of the world and in a sense could be the disconnect on current wider issues, although I am less concerned with questioning that and more concerned with exploration of the links and spaces between things. Just because links cannot be visibly seen it doesn't mean that they aren't present. The mind is a creative being. Comments are closed.
